To be able to address this concern, we have previously proposed the pattern-based UPPCART framework, which models the transactions and the DBMS mechanisms as timed automata, and verifies the trade-offs with provable guarantee. However, the manual construction of UPPCART models can require considerable effort and is prone to errors. In this paper, we advance the formal analysis of atomic concurrent real-time transactions with tool-automated construction of UPPCART models. The latter are generated automatically from our previously proposed UTRAN specifications, which are high-level UML-based specifications familiar to designers. To achieve this, we first propose formal definitions for the modeling patterns in UPPCART, as well as for the pattern-based construction of DBMS models, respectively. Based on this, we establish a translational semantics from UTRAN specifications to UPPCART models, to provide the former with a formal semantics relying on timed automata, and develop a tool that implements the automated transformation. We also extend the expressiveness of UTRAN and UPPCART, to incorporate transaction sequences and their timing properties. Consequently, we ask: How do the materialities of non-conventional databases differ from or align with the materialities of conventional relational systems? Managing Computerised Clinical Practice Guidelines Book Full-text available Jan 2010 Kudakwashe Dube Supporting the management of computerized clinical practice guidelines (CPG) so that they could be incorporated into routine used daily by clinicians presents major challenges in Health Informatics. This book contributes an approach to this challenge that adds the aspects of manipulation of CPG in addition to their specification and execution as part of a unified management framework. Works in the literature have focused mainly on the specification and execution of CPG leading to support that is inflexible due to lack of provision for manipulation. The paper utilizes an established equivalence between relational database functional dependencies (FDs) and a fragment of switching algebra that is typically built of Horn clauses. Therefore, the paper proposes the employment of various tools of switching theory in the domain of relational databases. In particular, the paper obtains the IDSs and MC of a database dependency set by employing a Variable-Entered Cover Table (VECT) to construct a presence or Petrick Function (PF). The proposed procedure is presented in detail and demonstrated via two illustrative examples. The traditional database approach, adopted by almost all textbooks on relational databases and based on the heuristic application of inference axioms, does not decide whether there is a unique IDS or multiple ones, and does not produce multiple IDSs when these exist. The present procedure, however, produces all (or, at least, as many as required) IDSs, and decides which among them are minimal covers. The present procedure is validated via Karnaugh maps and directed graphs. The paper demonstrates that the current covering problem is of exponential complexity and hence intractable. However, this complexity issue is not of much concern for the current pedagogical application to relational databases.

The results show that the factors influencing failure are divergent and include technical and managerial issues. In particular, the timing and duration of the training as well as the integration of EHR with the enterprise systems were found to be the strongest influencing factors, followed by reasons related to the software design (eg, a lack of required pharmacy functionality) and software people management (eg, resistance to change). The paper also discusses points related to EHR development and design, such as the development paradigm, data quality and validation, architecture for security, and source code naming convention.
