Each table stores a set of hydrological data and their respective information for the registered fluviometric stations...

The generation of line graphs ( Figure 8) and box plot ( Figure 9) can be done from the insertion of the desired period in historical series. Unlike the base flow estimation, which can be obtained for long periods of time, the generated graphs take into account only time intervals that do not exceed 1 (one) year... These periods must necessarily be in the historical series. On the results of the estimated base flow, statistics are also provided that allow the user to do not only a monthly analysis of the base flow, but also for the whole historical series ( Figure 10).. WebGIS development for base flow separation and recharge estimation Article Full-text available Jun 2020 Taison Anderson Bortolin Lucas Moraes dos Santos Adriano Gomes da Silva Vania Elisabete Schneider The basic flow rate is characterized by an important hydrological component being responsible for the estimation of the water recharge. Due to the difficulty of measurement, mathematical methods are used to calculate the flow separation. However, when hydrographic analysis is based on long historical series, the use of these methods becomes impracticable, making it necessary to use computational resources. A WebGIS (Web Geographical Information System) was developed for data selection and calculation of base flow separation, based on hydrological data from fluviometric stations located in the Taquari-Antas basin, located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. A modified version of the Unified Process was used as a software development methodology. We used the MVC software architecture standard and the programming languages PHP 7.0, HTML5, JS and CSS3 for programmatic development of the constituent layers of the system. The hydrological data comes from the HIDROWEB portal, part of the National Information System on Water Resources (SNIRH), with hydrological information collected by the National Hydrometeorological Network (RHN) coordinated by the National Water Agency (ANA).

The system facilitates the use of remote and distributed hydrological data, shared over the Internet, for various hydrological analyzes. View Show abstract. Immediate compensation executes a sequence of operations immediately upon abortion, in order to update the database into a consistent state. Deferred compensation, in contrast to the immediate execution of compensation, executes the compensating operations to restore consistency as a normal transaction, scheduled with other transactions.. Specification and automated verification of atomic concurrent real-time transactions Article Full-text available Jul 2020 SOFTW SYST MODEL Simin Cai Barbara Gallina Dag Nystrom Cristina Cerschi Seceleanu Many database management systems (DBMS) need to ensure atomicity and isolation of transactions for logical data consistency, as well as to guarantee temporal correctness of the executed transactions. Since the mechanisms for atomicity and isolation may lead to breaching temporal correctness, trade-offs between these properties are often required during the DBMS design.

To be able to address this concern, we have previously proposed the pattern-based UPPCART framework, which models the transactions and the DBMS mechanisms as timed automata, and verifies the trade-offs with provable guarantee. However, the manual construction of UPPCART models can require considerable effort and is prone to errors. In this paper, we advance the formal analysis of atomic concurrent real-time transactions with tool-automated construction of UPPCART models. The latter are generated automatically from our previously proposed UTRAN specifications, which are high-level UML-based specifications familiar to designers. To achieve this, we first propose formal definitions for the modeling patterns in UPPCART, as well as for the pattern-based construction of DBMS models, respectively. Based on this, we establish a translational semantics from UTRAN specifications to UPPCART models, to provide the former with a formal semantics relying on timed automata, and develop a tool that implements the automated transformation. We also extend the expressiveness of UTRAN and UPPCART, to incorporate transaction sequences and their timing properties. We demonstrate the specification in UTRAN, automated transformation to UPPCART, and verification of the traded-off properties, via an industrial use case. SCADA servers can generate a large flat file every day. According to the CAP theorem (Brewer, 2010), the core properties of distributed database systems are consistency, availability, and partitioning... As blockchain constitutes a distributed system and can be seen as a competitor to currently used distributed database systems, we also included these three properties in our analysis. A research framework is derived based on expert interviews and tested with a quantitative survey.

The results show, that by offering traceability and immutability of transactions, blockchain technology could positively impact a company's competitive performance. The study further identified a positive influence of smart contract technology on partnering flexibility and competitive performance. In contrast to the established approaches, the Internet did provide a new layer of functionality and became accessible to and usable for everyone. Similarly, almost every company maintains a system of databases storing transactions and other firm data (Elmasri and Navathe, 2015). However, blockchain potentially adds transparency and immutability across firm boundaries to current database functionalities and may revolutionize how we transact digital and physical goods and services, just like the Internet changed how we exchange information... A central authority controls the database, ensures the integrity of the transactions and manages user access (Redmond and Wilson, 2012). A distributed database acts as one physical database, where all nodes (entities in a network) have equal rights (Elmasri and Navathe, 2015). Blockchain is an advanced type of distributed ledger with a set of unique qualities.. Blockchain and supply chain relations: A transaction cost theory perspective Article Jul 2019 J Purch Supply Manag Christoph G. Schmidt Stephan M. Wagner Blockchain is projected to be the latest revolutionary technology and is gaining increasing attention from academics and practitioners. Blockchain is essentially a distributed and immutable database that enables more efficient and transparent transactions. The consensus-based record validation can eliminate the need for a trusted intermediary. We utilize the transaction cost theory to create a better understanding of how blockchain might influence supply chain relations, specifically in terms of transaction costs and governance decisions.

Conceptually developing a set of six propositions, we argue that blockchain limits opportunistic behavior, the impact of environmental and behavioral uncertainty. Blockchain reduces transaction costs, as it allows for transparent and valid transactions. We explore several areas for future research on how blockchain might shape supply chain management in the future.

Abstract This study begins with the historical review on databases and information centers as seminal structures for transport and logistics observatories. A systematic literature review on the concepts and the emergence of databases, information centers and observatories was conducted. The use of databases and information centers in transport and logistics field is analyzed, as well as their evolution to an organized observatory model. From the evidence found in the literature, it can be observed that databases and information centers constitute the initial structures of the observatories, which arise as they fulfill View Show abstract. Figure 1 shows all the components of an RDBMS for executing a single query. Constraint (5) ensures that each query is assigned to exactly one batch. Query batching in database systems has strong resemblance to order batching inIn this study, we develop a Mixed Binary Quadratic Program (MBQP) to optimize query-batching in a database system. This model uses the coeffcients of a linear regression on the query retrieval time, trained by a large set of randomly generated query sets.

We also propose two heuristics, the so-called restricted-cardinality search methods I and II, for solving the proposed MBQP. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed techniques, we conduct a comprehensive computational study over randomly generated instances of three well-known database benchmarks. The computational results show that when the proposed MBQP is solved using the designed heuristics, an improvement of up to 61.8% inView Show abstract.

Background: The materiality of databases As originally conceptualized by Codd, a relational database organizes data into tables, which are operated on with programming languages that use mathematical set theory to query across tables (Codd, 1970; see also Elmasri and Navathe, 2010 ). Article Full-text available Jun 2020 Andrea K. Thomer Karen M. Wickett Although databases have been well-defined and thoroughly discussed in the computer science literature, the actual users of databases often have varying definitions and expectations of this essential computational infrastructure. Systems administrators and computer science textbooks may expect databases to be instantiated in a small number of technologies (e.g., relational or graph-based database management systems), but there are numerous examples of databases in non-conventional or unexpected technologies, such as spreadsheets or other assemblages of files linked through code. Consequently, we ask: How do the materialities of non-conventional databases differ from or align with the materialities of conventional relational systems? What properties of the database do the creators of these artifacts invoke in their rhetoric describing these systems—or in the data models underlying these digital objects. To answer these questions, we conducted a close analysis of four non-conventional scientific databases. By examining the materialities of information representation in each case, we show how scholarly communication regimes shape database materialities— and how information organization paradigms shape scholarly communication. These cases show abandonment of certain constraints of relational database construction alongside maintenance of some key relational data organization strategies.

We discuss the implications that these relational data paradigms have for data use, preservation, and sharing, and discuss the need to support a plurality of data practices and paradigms. Zadeh, the pioneer in the field of fuzzy logic proposed the term soft computing. This mainly consists of three components (1) fuzzy logic (2) neurocomputing (3) probabilistic. Software engineering is one of the key thrust areas of soft computing application.. A study of SQL query processing using soft computing techniques: a hybrid vague logic approach Article Full-text available Nov 2018 Ramjeet Singh Yadav As we know that in this new era, the availability of modern data sets is massive. It is very difficult to find the variation and appropriate class for a data set. So, this paper introduces a comparison between fuzzy and vague sets for handling Structured Query Language (SQL) processing problems. This paper proposed a new method to convert crisp set into vague set with help of Positive Ordered Transformation formula (POTF). Further the similarity measures have been used to obtain similar tuple for classical fuzzy, vague and converted fuzzy sets based on SQL query processing. After testing through many cases, this paper discussed a very good finding about proposed method for SQL query processing problems. View Show abstract. To model CGPs, UML state charts are used in such a way as to facilitate the involvement of clinical domain experts. Managing Computerised Clinical Practice Guidelines Book Full-text available Jan 2010 Kudakwashe Dube Supporting the management of computerized clinical practice guidelines (CPG) so that they could be incorporated into routine used daily by clinicians presents major challenges in Health Informatics. This book contributes an approach to this challenge that adds the aspects of manipulation of CPG in addition to their specification and execution as part of a unified management framework. Works in the literature have focused mainly on the specification and execution of CPG leading to support that is inflexible due to lack of provision for manipulation. The paper utilizes an established equivalence between relational database functional dependencies (FDs) and a fragment of switching algebra that is typically built of Horn clauses. Therefore, the paper proposes the employment of various tools of switching theory in the domain of relational databases. In particular, the paper obtains the IDSs and MC of a database dependency set by employing a Variable-Entered Cover Table (VECT) to construct a presence or Petrick Function (PF). The proposed procedure is presented in detail and demonstrated via two illustrative examples. The traditional database approach, adopted by almost all textbooks on relational databases and based on the heuristic application of inference axioms, does not decide whether there is a unique IDS or multiple ones, and does not produce multiple IDSs when these exist. The present procedure, however, produces all (or, at least, as many as required) IDSs, and decides which among them are minimal covers. The present procedure is validated via Karnaugh maps and directed graphs. The paper demonstrates that the current covering problem is of exponential complexity and hence intractable. However, this complexity issue is not of much concern for the current pedagogical application to relational databases.

It can increase the transparency and the unalterability of data (beyond company boundaries). Despite the appeal of EHRs, failure in their implementation can lead to negative consequences, ranging from the loss of money to reputation damage, for health care providers. However, the causes of this problem have not attracted the attention of a sufficient number of researchers. This paper aims to investigate this phenomenon objectively and subjectively in a public context using an interview?based qualitative approach supported by archival data and records of a real?world failed EHR project. The results show that the factors influencing failure are divergent and include technical and managerial issues. In particular, the timing and duration of the training as well as the integration of EHR with the enterprise systems were found to be the strongest influencing factors, followed by reasons related to the software design (eg, a lack of required pharmacy functionality) and software people management (eg, resistance to change). The paper also discusses points related to EHR development and design, such as the development paradigm, data quality and validation, architecture for security, and source code naming convention. Neo4j version 3.3.5 is used in this project and Cypher is used as the query language to query the above component dependency patterns. Detecting clashes helps us identify problems, but the process for solving these problems is still manual and time-consuming. This paper proposes using network theory to improve clash resolution by optimizing the clash correction sequence. Building systems are often interdependent of each other, and the dependency relations between building components propagate the impacts of clashes. Ignoring the dependency may cause new clashes when solving a clash or cause iterative adjustments for a single building component. However, a well-organized clash correction sequence can help reduce these issues.
